Incumbent UCP MLA Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk came to office with little experience in 2019.
Although she had been a regional director with the former Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta and campaigned for United Conservative Party leader Jason Kenny, Conservative Party of Canada leader Andrew Scheer and local Member of Parliament Shannon Stubbs, Armstrong-Homeniuk had never before held political office at any level.
Through her term as our MLA she has been criticized for failing to attend public events, and being unreachable and unresponsive. Her choice of an office that is accessible only by stairs and hidden to the back of a downtown building has also been criticized.
Despite this lack of activity, she has managed to spend even more of her travel allowance than her predecessor, Jessica Littlewood, who was much criticized for this.
Armstrong-Homeniuk has taken credit for Fort Saskatchewan's new twin bridge over the North Saskatchewan River. She is also promising to make sure Vinca bridge is upgraded and an overpass is built at the Scotford intersection.
Armstrong-Homeniuk's biggest blunder of the past term was picking the wrong winner in an essay contest intended to inspire women. Her choice resulted in calls for resignation from hundreds of constituents as well the the Opposition NDP. The winning essay was called misogynistic, sexist, racist, transphobic and fascist.
The essay in question said that "Women are not exactly equal to men. To try to promote that women break into careers that men traditionally dominate is not only misguided, but it is harmful." Armstrong-Homeniuk lost her position as Associate Minister for Status of Women as a result of this controversy.
