Marking Truth and Reconciliation
Marking Truth and Reconciliation
Fort Saskatchewan will mark National Truth and Reconciliation Day with a round dance and feast on the day itself, Saturday, Sept. 30th.
The Indigenous Society of Fort Saskatchewan and the City of Fort Saskatchewan host this event at the Legion Normandy Room starting at 4:30 p.m. that day. Dow is supporting this event.
Those who would like to speak about their experience with Residential Schools and the 60s and 70s Scoop are invited to do so at the round dance.
The event begins with a pipe ceremony, followed by the feast and round dance. Adrian LaChance is the Master of Ceremonies, and Elder Jesse Morin will attend. Stickman for the dance is Darcy Goodrunning, and the first 10 drummers will be paid.
Plans for other events this month have been cancelled, including a walk/run on Sept. 23. Organizers hope to make this run part of the 2024 event.
Pow Wow dance classes begin again on Sept. 20, however. They are held every Wednesday at Ecole Park Elementaire School starting at 6 p.m. All are welcome.
