Another air quality health warning
Another air quality health warning
Wildfire smoke prompted yet another special air quality health advisory this week.
Heavy smoke drifted into our area Wednesday, and again on Saturday and Sunday resulting in High Risk to Health air quality.
Alberta Health, Environment Canada and Alberta Environment issued another special air quality advisory again this week as a result.
Even healthy residents are advised to limit outdoor activities during these conditions. Seek medical help if you experience shortness of breath, wheezing, severe cough, dizziness or chest pains. "Stay inside if you are feeling unwell and experiencing symptoms."
A mask is also a good idea, the advisory adds. "If you must spend time outdoors, a well-fitted respirator type mask (such as a NIOSH certified N95 or equivalent respirator) that does not allow air to pass through small openings between the mask and face, can help reduce your exposure to the fine particles in smoke. These fine particles generally pose the greatest risk to health.
"However, respirators do not reduce exposure to the gases in wildfire smoke. It is important to listen to your body and reduce or stop activities if you are experiencing symptoms."
This is the second time this month that an air quality health advisory has been issued for Fort Saskatchewan.
Major fires still burn in the Northwest Territories, but smoke in our area is currently coming from fires in northern B.C., according to firesmoke.ca
