Clinic at SouthPointe closes
One of Fort Saskatchewan’s largest medical clinics closed its doors this week.
The Medical Clinic at SouthPointe had already seen most of its physicians move out over the past year or so. Of the two remaining physicians, Dr. O. Farooq is moving to the MD Centre Clinic in Sherwood Park, and Dr. C. Antoniuk is still to decide on a new clinic, but hopes to remain in Fort Saskatchewan.
The clinic officially closed Friday, Oct. 25, about two weeks after posting notice on the front door. Clinic officials have not responded to our request for a reason for this closing.
The clinic was home to six physicians and two Practical Nurse practitioners just a year ago, most of whom are no longer practicing in Fort Saskatchewan.
Dr. Francis Eyo is now at the clinic in Gibbons.
Dr. Nicole Perkes is at the Women’s Health Clinic at Plaza 167 in Edmonton.
Dr. Deborah White is now in Ireland.
Two nurse practitioners, Nicole Onusko and L. Taylor, also had a practice at the Clinic at SouthPointe until recently.
Originally known as the SouthPoint Walk-in Clinic, the clinic actually started in the Square One building next to the former hospital site. It moved to SouthPointe in 2010.
Primary Care Networks Alberta currently does not have a physician listed in Fort Saskatchewan that is accepting new patients.
