Pineview plans draw public interest
Pineview plans draw public interest
The public is showing lots of interest in plans for Pineview. Two more meeting dates have been added for residents interested in helping to write these plans.
This brings the number of meetings now to five, seats for three previous meetings having been filled up.
The meetings are part of a new master Land Use Bylaw process, which is calling for specific rules for the development and redevelopment of each neighbourhood.
Previously, all neighbourhoods, new and old, followed the same rules for low and high density housing, commercial and industrial development. An area designated for single family home development therefore allowed the same size homes and home lots, the same height restrictions and the same minimum distance between homes.
The new Land Use Bylaw will vary these rules for each neighbourhood. Homes in the old downtown, for example, will now have to be further apart than in most new neighbourhoods.
The new Pineview rules call for more duplex development, and may allow some apartment construction, but lots will have to be bigger and proposed height restrictions are intended to ensure new buildings blend in with the existing housing.
The public is invited to meetings at City Hall on Monday Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. and at 6 p.m.
