Hamper campaign in full swing
Hamper campaign in full swing
Drop by Legacy Jewellers this week and get a free gift for helping the food bank Christmas hamper campaign.
This is the third year the local jewelry shop has helped the campaign.
Last year the shop collected 3,925 lbs of donations.
"I never realized how important the food bank is until now," shop owner Omar Tahiri said the first time he held this campaign in 2022. It has been the most positive response to anything Legacy Jewellers has done since it opened in 2020, Tahiri said. "That's Fort Saskatchewan. When you do something good, everyone helps."
The downtown shop is accepting donations of food and toys from Monday, Dec. 2, through Saturday, Dec. 7. Donors receive a thank you gift in exchange.
Fort Saskatchewan's 2024 Christmas Hamper campaign hopes to raise at least $125,000 to meet a growing demand. This is $25,000 more than last year, reflecting a growing need and rising cost of food. That goal was just $50,000 less than a decade ago.
Donations are being accepted at the food bank building and at local grocery stores.
Applications for Christmas Hampers close on Friday, Dec. 6. Contact the food bank directly before that time.
Help is also needed to deliver Christmas hampers on Saturday, Dec. 21, starting at 9 a.m.. Go to the food bank building at 11226 88 Ave. in the light industrial park.
