Church proposal faces questions
Church proposal faces questions
A new proposal to build a church on Fort Saskatchewan's south side may first have to answer some tough questions from City Council.
The Place of Rest Parish is trying for a second time to get permission to build a church on Range Road 224 across from the provincial corrections centre.
A proposal to rezone a 6.78 hectare site for a 16,000 sq. ft. building and parking lot, which was turned down by City Council in May, has been reduced to just the original farmhouse site covering 1.4 hectares.
But the site still lacks proper water and sewer service, City Councillor Birgit Blizzard noted last week. "A septic system and well wouldn't be suitable for anything more than a house," she said.
Councillor Gordon Harris also wants to know if the site is served by a fire hydrant.
Mayor Gale Katchur also made it clear she questions any development on that site until a proper plan is done for the whole neighbourhood.
A public hearing is set for this proposal at City Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
