Help plan new aquatics centre
Have your say in how Fort Saskatchewan's new pool is built. City officials are conducting an online survey on the project until March 5.
This input will help decide what the new pool will and will not include. The survey asks for your opinion on various options for the pool, such as a water slide or lazy river, and on other issues, such as accessibility.
This is part of the planning now underway for the new $54 million aquatics centre to be built in the Dow Centennial Centre. Council approved $5.4 million last year for this planning, after census results found overwhelming support the project.
Dow Canada later gave Fort Saskatchewan a $5.6 million grant to cover the cost of this planning process.
Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with the pool expected to open in 2029. Harbour Pool will remain open until this time, after which it will be permanently closed.
Once built, the new pool is expected to cost $2.5 million annually to operate, plus the loan needed to build it.
